Palma’s Main Celebration is already here! The day of the patron of the city, January 20th, streets and parks get full of music, stakes, lights and fireworks. If you are in Palma those days don’t miss Sant Sebastià 2018. Celebrations start on January 12th and will elongate for two weeks.
Sant Sebastià 2018: a nearly endless activities’ celebration in Palma!
Sant Sebastià celebration means music, family activities, fun and, mainly, foguerons I torrades (stakes and streets and parks’ barbecues). The most awaited day: eve’s celebration.
Streets get full of people that day. Family and friends going out to have dinner. You only need your picnic bag with typical pork and cold-meats (bacon, chistorra, pork loin, butifarrón), typical brown bread, long tweezers, the drink you like the most and plenty of desire to enjoy the night.
Main squares of the city will be full of live music concerts. Nearly 40 groups and local artists will play in different spots of the city, mainly in the city center. Jazz, pop, rock, Catalan rock, flamenco…music for all tastes!
Other interesting things will happen in the city. Celebration starts on Friday 12th, with proclamation’s reading and Giants parade with a concert at Plaza Mayor. January 13th is the pièce de résistance of the Celebration: 40 pop concert and COPE radio concert next January 20th.
After the concerts, the most expected moment: correfocs (“fire-run”), a light, music and fireworks activity all over city center. Palma streets will be, literally, the gates of Hell. Correfoc starts at 7pm (Paseo Mallorca with Jaime III). It is highly recommended to check security measures to enjoy the celebration safetely.
Beyond music and fireworks
Other scheduled activities are: cycling day (January 20th) and photo-marathon Palma Fotográfica (January 28th). Besides all this, Palma Council has organized guided visits to city center, Cort (Council’s building) and main museums of the city. There are scheduled exhibitions and conferences, together with a Humor Night where some of the best comedian of Spain will take part (January 26th)
