Fira Dolça, the sweet paradise in Esporles

Cakes, pies, ensaimadas, cocas (traditional type of cake), chocolate, cream… Does your mouth start to water? Welcome to an authentic gastronomic oasis full of more sweets than you can imagine. Welcome to an alternative world that tastes like sugarcane. Fira Dolça (sweet celebration) is approaching, and is one of the most famous events in Mallorca that is celebrated on October 7th in the town of Esporles. This town is one of the most picturesque towns in the Sierra de Tramuntana and is known for being located in a beautiful valley enveloped by mountains and nature.

This fair is considered as the great welcome to autumn, since it is the first that is organised after the summer months. The Fira Dolça gathers a large number of pastry chefs and chefs who meet in the main streets of the town, where the stalls are lined with delicious cakes, chocolate figures, cream cakes, candies, jelly beans, cupcakes and more. All kinds of treats with the sole purpose: to enjoy confectionary like never before.

From early in the morning to late at night, visitors can explore the stalls and buy all the sweets they want at great prices. Furthermore, there are stalls that also display typical crafts, art, Mallorcan sausages and craft beers. A traditional show that presents the finer side of Mallorca.

The event begins with parades, which features batucadas and rondallas (types of marching bands) that cross the streets of the town initiating one of the sweetest days of the year. Inbetween the music and the dancing you will find sewing and many types of workshops and show cooking for children and adults. Also never forget the fearsome Dimonis, who continuously haunt anyone who gets too close. Within the fair there is a special area of the festival that offers music from the afternoon until midnight.

La Fira Dolça is an excellent opportunity to taste Mallorcan gastronomic delights such as crespells, a sweet of Jewish origin very typical in Easter, the famous ensaimada, coca de patata (plain cake), El cardenal and the best of the island is gathered at this fair which has been held since 2005 and which every year gathers more visitors. Why not you take a look at the desserts at Mikel & Pintxo? At our restaurant in Playa de Palma you can choose a delicious brownie rockslide directly from the menu, or an intense banoffee pie… or maybe you prefer a cheesecake with strawberries… or a tiramisu. Do not deprive yourself of anything and welcome the autumn with the pleasure of a good dessert on the seafront.
